Highland Park West Balcones appeals to those who enjoy nature and the outdoors. Residents have plenty of parks, nature preserves, and hilltop views to take in. There are many opportunities to hike and bike in the neighborhood. Two unique attractions are Mount Bonnell, a relatively easy climb to reach remarkable views of Austin and the lake, and Camp Mabry, a historic Army post with a military forces museum and World War II reenactments.

The neighborhood borders Hwy. 1 which provides access to elsewhere in the city. Although the neighborhood doesn’t have a lot in the way of shopping and dining, downtown and south Austin are a short drive away.

Lots here are large and so are many of the houses. Although there are some smaller homes, the average size is 2800 square feet and some go over 7000 square feet. Living here commands a premium: even the smaller homes start at $300K and prices go up from there.

The neighborhood association is active and there are several annual events for residents including an Easter Egg hunt, Fourth of July parade, movies night at Perry Park, and picnic in the park.

The neighborhood doesn’t have as many shops and restaurants as others closer to the city center but makes up for it in its amazing views, greenspace, and charming environment.
